Collector Vehicle Eligibility Requirements
Are you wondering if your car or truck is eligible to be covered by a Collector Vehicle Insurance policy? Below you will find our eligibility requirements:
Vehicle
Vehicles equipped with Nitrous Oxide (NOS, ZEX, Venom, etc.), wheelie bars, non-OEM installed roll bar/cages, or non-OEM installed five point seat restraints may still be eligible for this program with approval from your underwriting authority. However, American Modern reserves the right to suspend all coverage for insured vehicles while participating in racing activities. Street use only dune buggies, parts only vehicles, home built replica cars, and any vehicles that are leased or corporately owned must be approved by your underwriting authority prior to binding coverage.
Operator
An operator will be deemed ineligible for this program if they have more than 2 minor violations in the past three years, more than one at fault accident in the past three years, or who has more than one minor moving violation and one at fault accident in the past three years. Also operators with a major violation (DWI/DUI, careless or reckless driving, drag racing, etc) in the past three years will be ineligible for the program. An operator will be deemed ineligible for this program if they have less than 10 years of driving experience. Each operator in the household must maintain another vehicle for their regular use, and this vehicle must be less than 15 years old.
Usage & Storage
Collector Vehicles are to be used solely for limited pleasure use; such as activities consistent with participation in vehicle exhibition, club activities and leisure or pleasure drives. Collector Vehicles will be considered ineligible for the program if they are used solely for errands and/or shopping, driving to or from work or school, business/commercial usage, or other similar actions. While commuting to or from work is normally a non-covered usage, an optional coverage is available that allows the car to be driven to and from work up to twice a week. The vehicle must be stored in a locked garage facility when not in use. When the vehicle is away from the owner’s premises, it is expected that the owner will exhibit a high level of due diligence to ensure the protection of the vehicle.
